Current legislation requires that the makers of soaps demonstrate 'due diligence' in the preparation of their products. This is mainly aimed at mitigating any risk of the individual or company as a result of legal action being brought against them due to any adverse reaction someone may experience when having used their products. Although this extremely unlikely, especially when great care is taken to choose the ingredients used, the risk may still be there. This legislation requires that a full preparation of a product file, which should contain all information regarding manufacturing ingredients etc. should be kept available for view by anyone requesting.
Naturally Made soaps keep records of every batch of soap made, the ingredients used, the method used and the outcome. Each batch is issued with a batch number which matches the records kept.
As a soap maker I am also required to provide a full list of ingredients used in order of weight (using their INCI name), concentrations of less that 1% may be listed in any order after those that are greater than 1%, this is usually either the fragrance or colours used.
The name and address of the manufacturer must also be listed
The batch code
and the presentation must be visible, easily legible with the ingredients, appearing on accompanying leaflets, labels, tags, tapes or cards enclosed with the products.
